Catching up with technology is working!

Friday, September 12th, 2008

I admit to being technologically challenged. I know that the computer is a part of our lives now, and in a big way. My boss tells me all the time that anyone who is not computer proficient is a bit of a dinosaur, and has convinced me to take a little time every week to learn something about a certain program or other. This week the subject was Microsoft PowerPoint which they tell me has revolutionized the art of presentation technology in the last decade or so. I thought to myself “In that case it must be very complicated and difficult to operate.” Boy was I wrong. When I opened the program, which I also understand is part of Microsoft’s Office suite, I surprised and delighted to discover how simple and user friendly it was. Most of the icons used in it are compatible with Word and Excel which I use a lot, so I felt immediately at home.  Each page or slide that I created in my trial PowerPoint presentation, can be stage managed and you can even add animations, sound effects and even video, although this is a bit ambitious for me at my learning stage. What I found especially interesting was that you set up the presentation so that the slides can only be changed manually. Think I might spend some more of free time learning more about this program. Maybe I have caught the bug.

Making Presentations: Pace Yourself

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Do you get nervous when Prosper presentations? Don't worry, you aren't the only one. In fact you are part of the majority.

A common sign of nervousness is when a speaker goes too fast. Generally, it is because they just want to get it over with. As to be expected, your audience will have a difficult time understanding you when you speak so fast.

It isn't so common for a presenter to speak slowly, but it has been known to happen.

Know how much time you have to speak and practice your presentation while timing yourself. When it comes time for the actual presentation, you must clock in at around the same time. If you're off, you'll know by how much and can adjust better for next time.

A corporate finance presentation is all about producing a positive professional image

I have been an excellent student throughout my academic career and was always involved in all the activities of school and college. Apart from this I have always been a member of the various clubs like interact club, nature club, leadership training club and other activities as well. Being a lively, energetic member I was involved in all the seminars and activities of these clubs. I loved to give presentations and so I was always assigned the task of preparing and giving presentations. I am a good public speaker and that was an added advantage. After the completion of my studies, I planned to join my dad’s business. I was thrilled at the idea of giving business presentations. But my dad explained me that a Corporate Finance Presentation was completely different from an educational presentation. It was not about presenting a theory but was totally based on market research and practical knowledge.
