It is all about paying a royalty to the legal owner. To cope up with such menace, the software has been designed that allows you to go around the encryption. Or else your DVD copies just would not work as you would have liked it to be. The non-paying public has to rely on those free of charge, self-governing spirits out there to come up with a way around that encryption. Getting over this encryption is usually known in the biz as ripping a DVD.
