Burglar Alarm Monitoring Systems from your Computer

There’s a nifty panel in my girlfriend’s apartment complex that she can control the thermostat and even alarm settings from right at the entranceway. I think it would be even better if there were some way to hook up the burglar alarm monitoring systems to her computer and webcam so that she could check in from the office. I haven’t finished doing the research yet but it seems that with the advancement in technology for home burglar alarms these days that it shouldn’t be too hard to set up. I wonder if there are any security issues though if someone else could hack in to your system that way.
